Serving the Church and the Community – Our Team

Except for pastoral and teaching roles, you don’t have to be a Christian to work or volunteer with us.

We are building a GREAT team! Would you like to join us? See our latest jobs here or contact us to volunteer.

Sharon Church Leadership Team

Pastor Mathew Bartlett collecting the “Third Sector Organisation of the Year Award” for the church from the Torfaen & Monmouthshire Business Awards in 2024.

Pastor Mathew Bartlett

Our Senior Minister

“I became a Christian in 1991. I served as Assistant Pastor for several years before becoming Senior Pastor in January 2007. My ministry is expository Bible preaching and teaching. The greatest joy in my ministry is to see people come to know Christ as their Saviour and watching them grow to love and serve him.”

Mathew has lived all his life in Pontypool and was a pupil at Trevethin Comprehensive School. After graduating from Cardiff University, he joined Torfaen County Borough Council before leaving to begin full-time ministry in 1999. He is a member of the British New Testament Society, with an MA in Biblical Studies from Chester University. He currently researches Graeco-Roman Rhetoric in Luke-Acts at Roehampton University, London (PhD part funded by the Saint Luke’s Foundation and Tyndale House). He is also pastor of Hope Baptist Church, Crosskeys. As a third-sector consultant he works to support secular charities as well as churches of various denominations across Gwent.

Mathew is 52 years old and has been married to Danielle for 18 years. They have one  daughter – Elen.

Children & Families Minister – Thomasina Brown

Hi I’m Thomasina and I’m the Families Minister at Living Waters! Ever since I met Jesus for myself as a teenager, I’ve been encouraging children and their families to discover His love, grace and forgiveness for themselves too! Here at Living Waters, we run after school clubs, toddler groups, and Family Fun events, sharing God’s love through Bible stories, games, songs and crafts.

Community Engagement Officer – Lisa White

Lisa heads up our community project “Hope for the Community” and works with other community partners to develop the services that help our local community including Cooking and Budgeting Lessons, Community Connect meals, School Holiday Hampers, the Christmas fete and the Grab-a-Bag scheme!

Community Chaplain – Larry Howser

Larry comes from the USA, and his accent gives that away! He’s our community chaplain and you’ll find him in our community cafe. Larry is there to listen and support anyone seeking pastoral or spiritual support.

Kitchen Assistant – Danielle Bartlett

Danielle works in our community cafe, opening & closing, serving, cooking, cleaning and restocking!

Community Assistant – Hannah Boalch

Hannah’s job is to pilot new schemes for the community at the Living Waters Centre.

Cook – Charlene Stephens

Charlene heads our community cafe kitchen, serving great cooked food at a really low cost three days a week. She is also available for buffets!

Current trustees of the charity are Mathew Bartlett, Emma & David Vaughan, Rhian Lewis and Thomasina Brown

Finally, we thank our amazing group of volunteers drawn from both the church and the community, who have helped to keep us open over that last year! We could not have managed without them! So thank you so much, whether you helped for a few weeks or many months!

Samantha, Sam, Rejoice, Ellie, Chelsea, James, Hannah, Matthew, Clare, Paula, Barbara, Richard, Rhian, Martha, Jo and Nicki!
